The work concerns a city street undergoing transformation
near the Padua East motorway toll gate and the ring road.
The area has important rail and road infrastructures that
separate the San Lazzaro district from the Mortise district.
The “North-East Star” is based on the dominating local presence
of the transport infrastructures and its design repeats
the same morphological logic of the adjacent junction
on the ring road.
The project has been interpreted in an architectonic key,
with a shape inspired precisely by the fluid flow of the
cycling-pedestrian routes that link the various areas of the
city.
The “North-East Star” bridge construction is not only a
connecting element that passes over roads and railways,
but also surrounds a shopping centre and a regional
underground station of the Veneto Regional Metropolitan
Railway System.
The platform of the railway station is located below the
buildings which also function as the station ceiling.
The reinforced concrete platform is supported by a series
of mushroom-shaped pillars that figuratively underline the
impression of an architectonic object in movement.
Above the reinforced concrete platform, there is a buffer
structure built mainly of glass panels, creating a visual link
between the indoor and outdoor areas.
