This
is a strategic pre-feasibility analysis programme regarding the
development of inter-modal links between the Countries of the Baltic
Sea basin territory and those of the Adriatic and Mediterranean, in
order to create new trade opportunities between the global markets of
Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
The project is based on the creation of new multi-sector partnerships
between the various administrations, institutions and the private
sector, to encourage regional economic development and to increase
cohesion between the CADSES countries (Central, Adriatic, Danubian and
South-East European Space), by means of investments in sustainable
transport (rail and sea) and in inter-modal platforms.
The A-B Landbridge project concerns the identification,
characterisation and assessment of a series of itineraries, in order to
create three Baltic-Adriatic corridors. The study takes into
consideration transport conditions, logistic services and regional
territorial development, under present conditions (2006) and under
forecast future conditions (2020).
The final goal of the project is both the development of a Road
Map indicating priorities and strategies to be adopted for
implementation of the connecting corridors, and the definition of an
institutional framework within the sphere of the Adriatic-Baltic
cooperation programme for extension of the collaboration beyond the
term of the project.
NET’s key role is to coordinate and monitor the progress of the
technical activities, guaranteeing achievement of the targets according
to the programmed timing, and to develop the Road Map featuring the
successive A-B Landbridge stage, as well as drawing up guidelines to be
followed for territorial planning and transport policies.
